Chapter 6: Verbs (V1, V2, V3) – Easy Hinglish Guide for All Exams

Is chapter mein hum English ka Engine padhenge – VERB. Agar Verb sahi use karna seekh liya, toh Tense, Voice, Narration sab easy ho jata hai. Yahan se hi SSC, Bank, UPSC ke bohot saare questions bante hain.

Isko aise likha gaya hai ki ek chhota bachcha bhi padhe toh easily samajh jaye, yaad bhi rahe aur exam mein galti bhi na kare.

1. Verb Kya Hota Hai? (Super Simple Definition)

Definition: Verb wo word hai jo batata hai:

  • Koi kaam ho raha hai – run, eat, write, play
  • Koi halat/state hai – is, am, are, was, were
  • Kisi cheez ka hona/existenceexist, remain, seem
Verb ko detect kaise karein?
Sentence mein aisa word dhoondo jo bata raha ho ki:
  • Kya ho raha hai? (Action)
  • Ya phir – Kaun kaisi halat mein hai? (State)
Example:
Ravi runs fast. → runs = Verb (kaam ho raha hai).
She is happy. → is = Verb (state bata raha hai).

2. Main Verb vs Helping Verb (Do Team Members)

Verb ko do bade groups mein baant sakte hain:

  • Main (Lexical) Verb: Real action wala verb – go, eat, play, read
  • Helping (Auxiliary) Verb: Tense, Question, Negative banane mein help karta hai – is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, do, does, did, will, would, shall, should, can, could, may, might, must

Examples:

  • She is reading a book.
is = Helping Verb, reading = Main Verb
  • They have finished the work.
have = Helping, finished = Main

3. Transitive vs Intransitive Verb (Object chahiye ya nahi?)

Har action ko khud mein complete rehne ke liye Object ki zaroorat hoti hai ya nahi – is basis par verbs do type ke hote hain:

Type Meaning (Hinglish) Example Kaise Yaad Rakhein?
Transitive Verb Jisko apna sense complete karne ke liye Object chahiye. He reads a book.
(Kya padhta hai? → book)
Question poocho: "What? / Whom?" – agar answer mila → Transitive.
Intransitive Verb Khud mein complete. Object nahi chahiye. He sleeps.
(Kya? – koi jawab nahi, fir bhi sentence theek hai.)
Question "What/Whom" poocho, agar jawab na mile aur sentence phir bhi sahi ho → Intransitive.
Trick: Agar Verb ke baad direct Noun/Pronoun aa raha hai jisko Verb ka effect mil raha hai → zyada chance hai ki wo Transitive ho.

4. Verb Forms: V1, V2, V3, V4, V5

Competitive exams mein sabse important cheez hai Verb Forms. Normally log sirf V1–V3 sunte hain, lekin total 5 forms hote hain:

  • V1: Base Form – go, eat, play
  • V2: Past Simple – went, ate, played
  • V3: Past Participle – gone, eaten, played
  • V4: Verb + ing – going, eating, playing
  • V5: V1 + s/es – goes, eats, plays

Most Common Verb Forms (V1–V3 Table)

Is table ko scroll karke dekho (Blue slider se). Isme kuch important irregular verbs diye gaye hain:

Verb (V1) V2 (Past) V3 (Past Participle) Example Sentence Trick
Go Went Gone I have gone to market. "Jaana" wala Go → Past: Went (Sound change).
Come Came Come He has come just now. V1 = V3 (Same), beech wala alag (Came).
Write Wrote Written She has written a letter. i → o → i + en (Write–Wrote–Written).
Speak Spoke Spoken They have spoken to him. ea → o → o + en.
Take Took Taken He has taken the keys. a → oo → a + en.
Do Did Done She has done her work. 3 alag forms – yaad zaroor rakho.
See Saw Seen I have seen this movie. ee → aw → ee + n.

Super Trick:
  • Has/Have/Had ke baad kabhi bhi V2 (Past) mat lagao. Hamesha V3 (Past Participle) aayega.
  • Did ke baad hamesha V1 (Base form) aata hai.
❌ He has went.
✅ He has gone.

❌ He did not went.
✅ He did not go.

5. Finite vs Non-Finite Verbs (Short & Sweet)

Yeh concept aage Tense & Clauses mein kaam aayega, isliye basic idea yahin samajh lo.

  • Finite Verb: Jo Subject ke hisab se (Singular/Plural) aur Tense (Past/Present/Future) ke hisab se change ho jaye.
She goes to school. / They go to school.
  • Non-Finite Verb: Jo Subject/Tense ke hisaab se change nahi hota (To + Verb, V+ing, V3 as adjective).
I like to read. / He likes to read. (To read same rehta hai.)

6. Common Mistakes Students Always Make (Aur Exam mein Pit Jate Hain)

❌ Mistake 1: Has/Have/Had + V2 lagana
❌ He has went to market.
Rule: Has/Have/Had + V3
✅ He has gone to market.
❌ Mistake 2: Did ke baad V2 lagana
❌ He did not went there.
Rule: Did/Did not + V1
✅ He did not go there.
❌ Mistake 3: Double Verb
❌ He is eats food.
Correct: Ya toh Helping Verb + V4 (ing), ya sirf Main Verb:
✅ He is eating food.
✅ He eats food.
❌ Mistake 4: Singular Subject + Plural Verb (ya ulta)
❌ She eat food.
Rule: Singular Subject → V5 (s/es).
✅ She eats food.
✅ They eat food.

7. Easy Tricks to Remember Verb Rules

1. "DID" Friend Trick
Jab "Did" aa jaye, toh sentence mein doosri Verb ko V1 pe wapas bhej do.
He went → He did not go.
2. "HAS/HAVE/HAD" = Always V3
Bas yaad rakho: "HHH" (Has–Have–Had) ke baad hamesha "3" aata hai → V3.
He has gone, They have eaten, We had finished.
3. Singular = V5, Plural = V1
  • Singular: He/She/It/Name → V5 (eats, goes).
  • Plural: I/We/You/They → V1 (eat, go).
Trick line: "He goes, They go." – bas isko yaad rakho.
